A photo of a bearded Ansel Adams with a camera on a tripod and a light meter in his hand.
Adams is wearing a dark jacket and a white shirt, and the open shirt collar is spread over the lapel of his jacket.  He is holding a cable release for the camera, and there is a rocky hillside behind him.

The photo was taken by J. Malcolm Greany, probably in 1947.

Photographic portrait of nature photographer Ansel Adams  – which first appeared in the 1950 Yosemite Field School yearbook.

PIC 1: Church, Taos Pueblo (1942) – Looking at the photo my first impression is that Ansel Adams is standing close to the front entrance using a small F32 or there abouts.

PIC 2: The Tetons and the Snake River (1942) – The curves of the river draws my eyes to centre mountain which is very dramatic. He is elevated using a small aperture.

PIC 3: Close-up of leaves In Glacier National Park (1942) – Looking down at the leaves using a large aperture.

PIC 4: Evening, McDonald Lake, Glacier National Park (1942) – The curves give you a feeling of increasing openness, reflection on the water. It is a picture of contrasts. The clouds are in turmoil and water is at peace.
