Week 2: Camera Use: Vantage Point, Fore, Mid and Background

Vantage Point "Manual Settings"

This exercise was most enjoyable 'Seeing' all the different people, buildings, cars, shapes, shadows, colours etc, etc.

Understanding and using manual on the camera. Definitely learning how to use the menu faster and more efficient. Composition, is very important to create a feeling of wide and narrow DOF. Changing positions when taking your images high or low can change an image perspective completely.
(Quote for the day: Have fun taking your photos meet new people)

Low Angle Portraits with a wide DOF:
F10.0 1/250 ISO160 24x70mm@24mm
Fore, Mid and background in focus. Leading lines towards and away from the subject. Shadows leading lines

High Angle Portraits with a narrow DOF:
F2.8 1/40 ISO500 24x70mm@70mm
Foreground in focus, mid and background blurry. The carving appears to be relaxing on a beach. The bronze colours of the carving reminds of the statues in the Aotea Square.

Mid Angle Portraits with a wide DOF:
F13 1/60 ISO250 24x70mm@67mm
Subject in mid ground, fore and background are all in focus.
The eye follows the chairs to the subject in the
centre moving around to the shops in the background. The chairs from the leading lines.

F9 1/320 ISO100 24x70mm@47mm
Side angle fence with wide DOF.
Mid ground in focus, fore and background blurry.

Architecture: High Angle Photographs with a wide DOF
F22 1/60 ISO125 24x70mm@24mm (High Angle)
Image in focus ORIGINAL

F22 1/60 ISO125 24x70mm@24mm (High Angle)
(Camera Raw: Image above enhanced brighter). The structure creates a very busy image with lots of leading lines. A number of triangles are formed in the image, example right bottom corner. The clouds add to the business of the image.

ORIGINAL

F6.3 1/800 ISO100 24x70mm@33mm (High Angle)
(Camera Raw: Image above enhanced brighter). The image seems to be leaning to the left almost creating the effect of falling over onto the tree.

Architecture: Low Angle Photographs with a wide DOF
BW / CROPPED IMAGE
F11.0 1/80 ISO100 24x70mm@24mm
(Low Angle wide DOF, Cropped, BW)
Foreground out of focus, mid and background in focus.
When taking this photo I did not notice the bird entering the frame.
This has enhanced the photo.

COLOUR CORRECTED / CROPPED IMAGE

(Low Angle wide DOF, Cropped and colour corrected)

(Low Angle narrow DOF)
Foreground out of focus, mid and background in focus.

F2.8 1/200 ISO250 24x70mm@24mm
(Camera Raw: Image enhanced and sharpened)

F2.8 1/2000 ISO250 24x70mm@24mm
(Mid Angle narrow DOF)
Foreground out of focus, mid ground in focus, background not sharp.
The fence leads your eyes towards the subject in the background, then away down the path notice the blue building and graffiti on the road sign.

F11 1/80 ISO100 24x70mm@50mm
(Mid Angle wide DOF)
Foreground and mid ground in focus, background blurry.

The photo would have being better if I stood back and used a wider DOF increased too about F18. The image would have being in focus.
Fore, mid and background.

Architecture: Foreground Angle Photo with a wide DOF
